The finest dog food review
Arden Grange are an extremely good company, they actually have an interest in your dog. Arden contains high-quality non-toxic ingredients and includes top quality human grade meat. Arden Grange contains small amounts of maize albeit the fourth ingredient. Other than this issue, this brand is highly recommended’ especially for its price. Arden is a British brand and has predominantly been sold only in the UK for many years. However, Arden can now be bought in Europe, and USA.
Innova contains high-quality non-toxic ingredients. It’s let down is their first two ingredients, which is fresh meat. Once dried, the meat content is reduced by 80%, this is due to the amount of water lost during drying. Three of their products meet the AAFCO, this gives you peace of mind and guarantees you excellence for your dog. This food has too many grains; nevertheless, it is a very good food and appears to be above average in terms of excellence.
Three of Wysongs dried foods meet the AAFCO. Although this brand was recalled in 2009, the dog food recall wasn’t due to salmonella poisoning like some other brands; it was down to mould issues. Wysong has a selection of eight formulas, one has 40% protein. Wysong’s meat is fresh, and they have no ranges with ‘named’ meat meal. This is a let down since so much percentage is lost in the drying process.
Barkinghead’s are a UK brand, their food is claimed to be toxic free. BH contains high-quality British ingredients, and they also claim high meat content. One slight niggle is the first ingredient; it’s fresh meat. This may sound good, but it is not. Once the meat has been dried the percentages of the meat content drop, by at least 80%. All their dried ranges contain a bone and joint pack. In 2011, Barkingheads received awards for their ‘Fat Dog Slim’; however, has very little meat content.
Although Avederm dog food is high-quality, it does contain high amounts of rice as the second and the third ingredient. They do have a new dried food called Triple Protein Meal Formula, which is exceptional, this is the one to buy. Avoderm also has formulas that are grain free. These grains are substituted for potato which is a carbohydrate and a filler. Whatout, some of their ranges start with wheat.
Newman’s Organics meet the AAFCO, this should give you peace of mind that you’re buying an excellent dog food. Their foods are considered complete and balanced, this brand is a first choice for many dog owners. This has been given four-stars because their first ingredient states just ‘chicken’. I’m assuming this meat is weighed from fresh; therefore, the protein could be much less once the food is has been dried. Newman’s contains soybean meal and flax seed meal.
Nutro Ultra Holistic offer a very good range. Five of their dried foods meets the AAFCO, this should give you peace of mind. This brand has lost one star due to the first ingredient being fresh meat and the third and fourth ingredient being rice. Nutro combines a super-food blend, which fortifies their kibbles. There ranges also contain high amounts of vitamins, minerals and they’re mycotoxin free. All their products are independently tested and rigorously checked by themselves.
Petcurean produce four different ranges, two varieties in the GO, which offer ‘Sensitivity and Shine’ with tasty Salmon and ‘Refresh with Renew’ with luscious chicken. They have two varieties in the NOW which offer Grain-Free Puppy and a Grain Free Adult. Petcurean foods are not gluten-free as you would expect but the quality is awesome with zero toxicity. Its drawback is the fresh meat, although it states a percentage, this, in fact, may not be true as raw meat loses almost 80% of water during its drying process.
Life’s Abundance dog food is a sought-after brand. Although their food begins with ‘name’ meat meal, the following two ingredients are wholesome grains. Life’s Abundance contains canola oil and flax seeds both have varying controversies as stated above. Canola has no biologic value to humans or dogs unlike fish oil, and flax is known to increase oestrogen. Also, fructooligosaccharide or otherwise known as FOS is used as a sweetener and to replace probiotics.
